Chairman’s Report March/April 2020
By Steve Rowland SEAMS Chairman
Dear Members
We have been having some horrendous weather just lately and I hope your were tucked up in your workshops and were able to avoid it. I guess we are all looking forward to the better weather and the start of the Rally season, I am sure it will dry out by then!
The committee meets once a month and during the winter months planning and putting our thoughts in to the event calendar. We have a few new things coming up and the list so far will be detailed in the latter pages so you can plan your year. These events are put on for you, the members, so it would be great to see a few new members joining in please.
As you all know we have a meeting at Hassocks Garden Centre, John Peters knows the owner very well and we are privileged to be able to use their piece of land and hold this meeting, this year it is on the 15th March.
In the past it has been a bring and buy, but the last few we have called it a gas up and should anybody want to sell anything, this is fine and can be laid out to do just that and we don’t even take a contribution. The club do give a donation to the nominated charity that the owners choose. This year I would like to call it a “Breakfast Meeting and gas up”, the reason being that there are a large percentage of people who like to start the day with the 10am trip to the cafeteria for a lovely breakfast, so I would like to invite as many as possible please to make this an event more substantial and I am sure you would all enjoy a great day out.
Colin Williams has the Cobbs Mill event on 9th May 10.30am to 4pm. The mill engine will be running but he would like to have some stationary engines in the paddock opposite. This event has been advertised to the public to draw some crowds but spaces to get engines in are very limited, 10 off I believe, so please let Colin and Bill know your intentions.
This neatly leads me into the next subject, our events list. We have decided to withdraw address details in the hope that members wishing to attend will contact the relevant person beforehand of their intentions. A quick call is all it takes.
For Club Nights, in February we have the return of Paul Green (you recall we call him the Argus man). This will be on the 20th at Faygate 7.30 for 8pm start. He has new talks on Murders & Misdemeanors, but we have chosen a film on Brighton & Hove, the way things were. This is a film the Argus has put together of all old black and white footage from the building of the pavilion through both world wars and up to the 1950s including trams and trolley buses. Paul narrates to it whilst it is playing. Please can I ask for a great turn out and I am sure it will be a great evening.
Regarding our coach trip later in the year, John and Heather Moss have been investigating the Fleet Air Arm Museum but confirmation and full details are still being finalized.
Many of you will know Michael & Jackie Brown from Polegate. Mike unfortunately had some problems towards the end of last year, maybe you noticed he looked a little off colour at Singleton? Eventually this resulted in a hospital visit where things went from bad to worse! After many weeks in intensive care, he has finally been allowed home, although still not out of the woods yet. Lets hope he recovers soon and our thoughts are with you both and hopefully we will see you on the rally field somewhere.
Now it needs me to say that for any members that have not renewed as yet this is your last newsletter, so we want everybody to re join so please send in your renewal ASAP.
