Chairman’s Report – December 2021

Dear Members

Thanks to all that attended the SEAMS AGM on Friday the 19th of November. It was a good turnout considering it was really the first winter meet and the AGM. There were about 17 people that included 4 Committee members, Jon Foster, John Peters, Ian Sampson and myself.

Apart from the discussions on subjects such as a couple of positions being under temporary guidance, namely the Treasurers role that I am managing and the events and membership Secretary that John Peters aided by Ian Sampson will take care of for the coming year. It was also good to meet up and swap those stories.

One thing I should mention and apologise to a few members that joined /re joined in and around June and July, is that I only received the cheques from Ian on the night of the AGM, meaning that you have potentially missed out on our Summer newsletter issue 274 July and the autumn one issue 275 in September. You will know who you are, so if you would like these my contact details are always on the back of the newsletter and all contacts are listed here https://www.seams-stationaryengclub.co.uk/membership so please make contact and we will ensure you get these one way or another.

With both the Treasures role and Membership Events secretary needed to be taken in hand through the current period and 2022, there was no-one that showed any real interest to join the committee and therefore we were duly re-elected .

As mentioned in the last newsletter, we now have Faygate Hall on the third Friday of each month, changing from the Thursday. We have organised 4 other winter meetings, one in December, January, February and March.

The December pre Christmas meeting will be on Friday 17th at Faygate Village Hall, doors open 7.30pm for 8pm start, sorry no speaker on this one but time to have a few nibbles and exchange cards etc.

We will expand on speakers for the remaining meetings once confirmed, we know that Andy Skinner was trying to get something special for us.

SEAMS NEW YEAR GAS UP & BBQ

We also intend to hold the NEW YEAR GAS UP AND BBQ, at Faygate Village Hall on Sunday the 9th January 2022. Arrive from 9am, engines welcome. You will all be aware there is a bit of space that allows us to run a few. The BBQ will be paid for by the club, but we will put a donations box out, where any donations are very much appreciated.

IF I CAN ASK THAT YOU LET EITHER JOHN PETERS OR MYSELF KNOW IF YOU INTEND TO COME, SO WE MAY GET AN IDEA OF FOOD REQUIREMENTS.
Please bring a raffle prize as it makes a nice end to the day.

One thing it was good to announce was that SEAMS has its Facebook page up and running, this is maintained / managed by Sean Murrell. Listening to our younger members and hopefully getting a greater following, Sean Murrell who is already a Committee member has created a Facebook page,  I have listedit again here: https://www.facebook.com/Engineandassociated/.

As I write , I feel that it will mainly be just the Chairman’s report in this newsletter, I appreciate that there are no real events to write about but there must be a few restorations and bits and bobs that members have been doing.

Each time the newsletter is supplied, the cost to the club is about £170, which covers the printing, postage and envelopes, so the more we have the better value you get.

Don’t forget we say `it’s your club your newsletter’, so as always we would be very pleased to receive a few words, even a picture of what you have been up to.

Please remember you can send in anything you have to me via email, post or pigeon  if it helps and we will turn it into something that all members can read through. Send your news and pictures to:

Better report on the Land Rover.

It’s still ongoing, all the new wiring loom is working and integrated with (Defender) switch gear, getting to final stages as carpet and door seals etc are ready to go in, and I did manage to get it started on the weekend of the 28th November, since being decommissioned in, I think, September 2018. As I have said before, `you will struggle to recognise it when it is finally complete’.

Membership Renewal Forms

You can download the membership form here: https://www.seams-stationaryengclub.co.uk/wpsystem/wp-content/uploads/Membership-Form.pdf
or visit our membership page.

The membership renewal forms now go back to John Peters. Please note there is a section for you to add your membership number, this is very important as we are trying to piece together the membership structure, working alongside Ian.

I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas from all at SEAMS, and we hope to see as many of you as possible at the BBQ on 9th January 2022.
