Richard Amos Engine Library Literature
By David Ralph
Richard not only loved stationary engines, he also loved the history of engines and engine manufacturers.
Over many years Richard gathered engine literature and researched about engines. Because of his love of history Richard became the SEAMS Club Historian.
Following his sad passing last year, Richard has bequeathed his engine library to SEAMS and I recently collected this from his house. With the rear seats folded, the back of my Citroen Berlingo was very full and with a lot of weight in the back.
The library includes lots of old reference books, early Model Engineer magazines, a number of modern engine books, photograph albums, and 8 lever arch folders crammed full of literature. I am slowly working through these to see what they contain and list what we have.
However, the bulk of the library is a massive number of Stationary Engine magazines. Richard subscribed to the magazine from 1977 and had also found back issues for 1975 and 1976. There is a full set of magazines from issue 34 to the final issue, number 607, plus 11 issues from 16 to 29. There are also a large number of duplicate issues from number 143 to 603.
I already have my own set of magazines from number 15 to 607 so I would really like a SEAMS member or members to take care of Richard’s magazines as they are talking up far too much room for me.
