Lister B Type Restoration

By James Skinner

This engine was purchased from eBay. When it arrived it was in a sorry state to say the least. As you can see from the 1st picture it was built in 1930 and this was confirmed by Doreen Edgington but unfortunately this was the only information Doreen held on the engine.

We built the trolley from wood we salvaged from Allan Harris’ garden wood pile back last summer. The wheels and axles were from an old Petter trolley we had lying around. It was an interesting project to complete in these uncertain times and we are hoping to have it on a rally field soon.

We decided to remove it from its badly built trolley and set about stripping the paint from the engine and degreasing it.

Dad played with the magneto and managed to get a decent spark and with the tank borrowed off the caged valve A type. We got it running and the water tank was from Dads’ workshop. This was being used as a rubbish bin. The engine is not going to be re painted as it looks better in working clothes, complete with frost damage repair to the side of the head.
