Ian Sampson Obituary

It is with great sadness that my father, Ian Sampson, passed away on the 11th September 2022 at the age of 76 having been diagnosed with FTD dementia earlier in the year.

He started rallying in the late 1960’s attending rallies and when possible joined clubs that catered for stationary engines. In 1991 he became a one of the founder members of this club; I remember one Rushmoor rally evening being amongst the founder members who were deciding a name for the club etc.

He was a key volunteer when Amberley Museum was being established and ran the Stationary Engine Day for many years. Likewise the stationary engine section at the Ardingly Steam Rally was a great sight having been organised by Dad; many a local event may have had him organising an engine line up.

Two charities that we asked for donations towards were Dementia UK and Prostate Cancer UK.

He will be sadly and greatly missed by my family.

Ian was a good friend to many in the world of stationary engines and those that knew him will know that he worked tirelessly for S.E.A.M.S in so many different ways. I am sure you will agree that he will be sorely missed by us all as a friend and on the rally field. Our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time. Sue & Alan Goodchild
