Chairman’s Report September/October 2018

By Steve Rowland

Dear Members

I am writing this just before the August Bank Holiday weekend. Oh how the weather has changed, we have all been used to the long hot (some say too hot) days, but then it is Bank Holiday so I guess we must expect a change.

The committee have had their thinking cap on as it’s time to start planning who we arrange for the Winter meetings. Looking back on last season, I feel we had some entertaining evenings and a very popular one, I unfortunately missed due to work commitments, was John Peters’ selection of pictures from rallies past. Well he has more!.. so we will schedule this for one of the first evenings, which I am looking forward to.

You may recall that in the last Chairman’s report I spoke about that SEAMS were looking at and reviewing how to progress on the holding of personal information in light of the new data protection laws that have come into force. This was for SEAMS to hold only names and addresses that allow us to send each member a newsletter and their membership renewal. I started that…

“Should any Member wish SEAMS not to hold this information, they must put this in writing to Jon Foster at 18A Newham Land, Steyning BN443LR.”

To date we have not had a single letter, so by this the club is presuming that every member has been informed and are happy for us to hold such information. Thank you.

Celia Harcombe has been in touch to advise that the Westcott Stationary Engine Museum near Dorking, will once again open its doors for Heritage Weekend over the 14th-16th September. Friday is only the afternoon but Saturday and Sunday are full days, with engines running in the Museum and outside, vintage and classic Motorbikes on display and the chance to go inside a proper Anderson Air Raid shelter from World War Two era. There will be light refreshments available. Club Members are most welcome to visit. Check out the event on the Heritage Weekend website and see what else is open locally. www.heritageopendays.org.uk

As I have said before, not as many rallies this year for me and Cyril, so if and when the Land Rover returns we should see a few more next year.

Hopefully I will see you on a couple more this year but be safe at all of them.
