Chairman’s Report July/August 2017

by Steve Rowland

Hello again everyone! From my last report, the rally season has now got well underway. I, myself have not attended that many events with quite a few things happening at work, around the house and my Grandson’s Christening adding to the distractions.

On a sad note, we learnt of the sad news that Eric Taylor passed away recently. For me when I started rallying, I always marvelled at his big Lister engine and at the time Eric was quite active on the rally field. Cyril has known Eric all his life as they were both ‘Southwater boys’ and on one visit I made with Cyril to pick up a Ruston 8PB, Eric showed us the Allen Engine. Now this was well before the thought was even a concept for SEAMS to acquire the engine that is now in the Internal Fire Museum of Power.

All of our thoughts and condolences from everyone at SEAMS go out to his wife Birthe and family.

With a brighter note , we have 2 more new members Julian Hale from Hailsham and Neil Harris from Lingfield. Welcome!

On the evening of the 22nd of June SEAMS held their Summer Barbeque at Faygate Village hall. Usual format, we met at around 6.30pm and the food starting to be served at around 7pm. The turnout was very good, slightly cooler weather than the preceding days, but fine and no rain.

For future events, if anybody has any concerns on timings, please ring one of the committee members, their numbers are listed on the newsletter back page and they will be pleased to help.

Lovely food and good company, so thanks to all the organisers and helpers for an excellent evening.

Just before I let you all get back to your engines, I wanted to wish Tony Kuhn a speedy recovery after his operation.

Hope to see you back on the rally field soon.
